The Governmental Affairs Committee hosted a very successful State of the City luncheon on July 20. More than fifty people attended the event to hear Mayor Oscar N. Harris report on the City's current situation. Mayor Harris acknowledged the economy was having a substantial impact on the city but the staff is buckling down and cutting expenses where we can - holding off on capital purchases. Mayor Harris stated "it is steady as she goes" in these economical times and not knowing how the state and county funding will impact us down the road.
Mayor also reported on the accomplishments of the City such as improving Bond rating to A+ and on the goals set forth in the coming year. Other City representatives in attendance included Mayor Protem Carnell Robinson, City Attorney Tilghman Pope and City Manager Ronnie Autry.
