Washington D.C. Perspective

A delegation from the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce attended the Washington Perspective held in Washington DC on September 12-13. The event was hosted by Congresswoman Renee Ellmers and six other Congressmen representing eastern North Carolina.  On Monday, the delegation heard from the North Carolina Executive Leadership Panel which promoted dialogue between participants and the CEOs of some of NCs most distinguished companies on best practices for economic recovery. Some of these CEOs included Dave Fussell of Duplin Winery, Cynthia Marshall, AT&T and William K. Atkinson II, Wake Med. The delegation then heard from the hosting North Carolina U.S. Representatives. Congresswoman Renee Ellmers shared with everyone that she had once attending this event with the Dunn Area Chamber and decided she wanted to get something done in Washington. The panel of Representatives opened the floor for questions and comments on what attendees felt should be the main priority for Congress. On Tuesday, the delegation attended a seminar featuring various speakers including Lee Hammond, AARP; Reince Priebus, Republican National Committee Chairman; Admiral Gary Roughead, Chief of U.S. Naval Operations; Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, U.S. Deparment of Health & Human Services, Senator Kay Hagan; Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Floridas 20th Distric; Nancy Pelosi; and Brenda DeGraffenreid, Acting Associate Director, Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization at the Department of Energy. Both the Monday and Tuesday meetings were held in the Capitol Visitors Center. Pictured left to right: Daniel Glover, Bonnie Wise, Congresswoman Renee Ellmers, Kim Schmidlin, Renee Jackson.
