Ella Kelly, Chairman of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce Downtown Development Committee announced today that the Dunn Farmers Market will open in Dunn in May 2008.
Last year, the Downtown Development Committee of the Chamber coordinated the Farmers Market from April through September. "Last year was a great year for the market. Even with the cold weather in April and the drought in the summer, our vendors were happy with its success and are anxious to return," says Mrs. Kelly.
According to Chairman Kelly, "We feel this market helps increase traffic in Downtown but is also an asset to our entire community. We want it to be something people continue to look forward to each Saturday. Terry Moody will continue to serve as the Market Manager and is hoping to plan even more special events this year. Last Year's watermelon seed spitting contest was a highlight for the summer."
Members of the market should reside and produce the items they sell within a 50-mile radius of the City of Dunn. The market will not allow buying or reselling of produce or other products and crafts must e made by the person selling them or their immediate family. Baked goods and prepared foods are also allowed.
The market will be open May through October from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. each Saturday only. The market will be held in the City Parking lot behind Sherry's Bakery on US Hwy 301/Clinton Avenue in Dunn.
All local growers, producers and farmers interested in participating should contact the Dunn Chamber for Rules and Regulations and an Application for Membership. Annual Membership to participate in the Farmer's Market is $50 or vendors can pay $10 a week.
The Dunn Chamber is located at 209 W Divine Street in Dunn.
