The second Dunn sign is now proudly displayed at Exit 73 on Highway 421. The Beautification & Image Committee of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce has been working on the Dunn sign project for several years. “The first obstacle was finding the land in the best locations possible,” according to Vice President of Community Development Renee Ellmers, who has been instrumental in the design and construction of the two signs. Mrs. Ellmers added that “Our City Planner, Steven Neuschafer, found the land and worked with the City and the other landowners to make the signs a reality.”
Both signs on Hwy 421 were made possible through the partnership of the Chamber and the City of Dunn and the contributions of money and products by many Chamber members and the Dunn Area Tourism Authority. “The brick has been donated by Mr. Paul Perry of Lee Brick for both signs. Blaine Everhart of Home & Business Solutions has donated his time to serve as our contractor and oversee both sign projects,” according to Chamber Executive Tammy Williams. “This has been a team project from start to finish.”
Mr. Gale Tart and Mr. Steve Tart of Circle Enterprises, the owners of the property at the intersection, granted an easement to the City of Dunn for the second sign. “They spent quite a bit of time working on the issues related to the land and have been a great partner in making this sign happen, ” according to Steven Neuschafer.
The sign is still not complete as the Committee is working on lighting and landscaping. “Hopefully, this will not be the last Dunn sign,” added Mr. Neuschafer. “These signs are important as they represent our City well and give our citizens a great sense of pride.”
